History
How it came to be
Gjipe sits where a deep canyon cut through the Ceraunian range opens onto the Ionian Sea. The gorge and the pale cliffs framing the beach were carved by water over long ages, leaving a sheltered cove that stayed hard to reach and largely undeveloped — today a favourite for campers, hikers and boat trips along the coast.

The setting is the draw: a curve of pebble and sand between high cliffs, exceptionally clear water for swimming and snorkelling, and the canyon behind the beach that you can walk up into. It's a popular spot for wild camping and for boats stopping along the coast.
How to Visit
No road reaches the beach. Walk in down the canyon trail — around half an hour from the parking area off the SH8 — or come by boat or water taxi from Dhërmi or Himarë in summer.
Best Time
June to September; go early to beat the midday sun on the exposed trail, and take water.

Gjipe is one of the Riviera's best-known spots for wild camping, and there is basic seasonal food and drink on the beach. Come prepared and take your rubbish out with you.
