Dhërmi Beach

Updated 2026Checked on footDhërmi seafront

The main beach at Dhërmi — a long strand of white pebble and exceptionally clear turquoise water on the Ionian coast, backed by the steep Ceraunian Mountains. In summer it fills with sunbeds, beach bars and small boats running out to the coves nearby.

History

How it came to be

Dhërmi Beach sits at the foot of the Ceraunian Mountains, where the range — rising to 2,044 m at Maja e Çikës just behind the coast — drops almost straight into the Ionian Sea along the Albanian Riviera. The white pebbles and clear water come from the limestone coast, and the beach has grown into one of the Riviera's best-known summer destinations as Albania has opened up to travellers.

What You’ll See

On a visit

The clear water is the draw — shallow, calm and turquoise close to shore, deepening quickly a few metres out. The beach runs for a long stretch of sunbeds and umbrellas fronting a line of beach bars and tavernas, and small boats and water taxis leave from here for Gjipe and the sea caves along the coast.

How to Visit

Reached on the coastal road (SH8); a paved road drops from the village down to the seafront, where there is parking behind the beach. Free to walk onto, with sunbeds and umbrellas paid.

Best Time

June to September for swimming; mornings and late afternoon are calmest and coolest in peak summer.

Good to Know

It's a white-pebble beach — smooth stones rather than sand — which is part of why the water stays so clear. Water shoes are handy for getting in and out.

Yes, the beach is free to walk onto. You only pay if you rent a sunbed and umbrella or order at one of the beach bars.
